Tickets & Opal Card
MyBus, MyTrain and MyFerry tickets are available for single journeys, but if you plan to travel regularly or are staying for more than a few days, The Opal Card is a great option. It is a contactless smartcard ticketing system used on the public transport network in Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Hunger, Illawarra and the Southern Higlands. Purchase an Opal card from retailers, including 7-Eleven stores, pop-up kiosks at train stations, some Woolworths supermarkets, and select Westfield Sydney shopping centres. Use cash or EFTPOS to load a starting value of $10 for adults and $5 for children onto your card. You can travel with an unregistered card, or go online and call 13 OPAL to register your card and set it to auto-top-up. Opal cards can be used on all suburban and intercity trains, all Sydney Ferries and more than 2,300 buses. With an Opal card you can travel all day for no more than $15 a day for adults, and $7.50 for children from Monday to Saturday. Plus, travel as much as you want on Sundays and pay no more than $2.50 from 4am Sunday morning until 3.59 am Monday. Public transport staff can offer advice on the best travel options for you.
