What inspired you to apply for a student visa?

We decided to study so that we could broaden our knowledge. We hope that this will eventually help us to work our way up the career ladder. We also really wanted to extend our time here in Australia and studying is a great way to do so.

How did Study Online Australia help you to find the right course?

Study Online Australia Director Pavla Hannan made everything really easy for us. There is nothing worse than visa stress and she took all of that away.

She took the time to go through each course option and helped us to work out which was the best choice for us!

As part of our Q&A series, Study Online Australia had the pleasure of speaking to Lorna Samson who is originally from the UK.

After two working holiday visas, she decided to study down under.

But Lorna's college closed down unexpectedly as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic. Thankfully, the Study Online Australia team swiftly helped her to change courses and she is now studying at the Australian Learning Group (ALG). Lorna is now happily studying Certificate III and Certificate IV in Fitness, which is something she has always wanted to pursue.

We asked Lorna her top tips on studying in Australia.

What inspired you to apply for a student visa?

After completing my two year working holiday visa, I decided this beautiful country would be a far better place to start my studies rather than returning home to Scotland.

There are so many international students doing the same thing which assured me that it was a good decision to make!

What have you loved about Australia so far?

I love my course as it goes hand-in-hand with fitness, which is one of my favourite past times. The experience will hopefully give me the opportunity to work in an industry that I love. The college is convenient and easy to get to as well which is a huge bonus.
Picture

How did Study Online Australia help you to find the right course?

I spoke to the Study Online Australia team about what I was interested in studying and how long I wished to spend at college.

Company director Pavla sent me a list of numerous colleges with different timetables so that I could choose one which suits me best. I changed college and course twice but Pavla was really helpful and quick to respond.
Picture

How did you find the student visa process?

The application process was much easier than I expected it to be all thanks to the Study Online Australia team's help. They gathered the information quickly and process the application on your behalf. The team will also follow up if they need any further information and spend a lot of time making sure everything is correct before sending the application.

What advice would you give to readers dreaming of studying down under?

The biggest advice I would give to aspiring students is to choose a course you really want to study instead of just going for the cheapest option. It's also really important to save money before commencing your course as the student fees can be tough!

What inspired you to pursue a career in international study?

To be honest with you, I wasn’t planning to work in the education industry at all. My original plan was to come to Australia, as it was my dream to study English and travel. I always thought I would go back to my home country eventually.

But I was lucky enough to get a job offer from International House so started my career with them. Ever since, I've been on an amazing journey helping agents and their students to realise their dreams in Australia.

What do you love the most about your job?

I love helping our partnered agents and their students with their future plans. Seeing all of the positive stories is the most rewarding part of my job.

What advice would you give to students who dream of studying in Australia?

I know that sometimes it can look scary and many students are afraid of taking such a big step in their lives, but this shouldn’t be the case.

Just step out of your comfort zone, travel, learn a new language and discover what the world has to offer. Being part of Australian education can bring so many new opportunities into a student’s life, which can be used and implemented in their home countries.

How can Study Online Australia help students to find the right course for them?

Study Online Australia and International House have been working together for more than 8 years.

Since this partnership has been established, we have never seen a student turn away from us because of choosing the wrong course or study plan. Pavla has amazing knowledge of the industry and takes care of her students from the very beginning until the end.

What are your favourite memories from being a student?

Meeting new people from all around the world. I’ve made so many friends who will stay in my life forever and thanks to them, I got to see so many places around Australia.

Learning English in an English environment was another incredible experience. This is something students definitely cannot get in their home countries. You suddenly realise how much difference it can make and how fast your English can improve.

What inspired you to study in Bondi, Sydney?

I have had a stable job here since my first visa (Working Holiday) at a company which provides great opportunities to grow.

What have you loved the most about studying in Australia so far?

Studying here can be hard, especially in terms of finances.

What I do love about Australia though is the easy lifestyle and the connection to other international students. It's a great display of so many different cultures and easily leads to new friendships.
Picture

How did Study Online Australia help you to find the right course?

I changed my mind quite often and was not too sure which direction to go in. Pavla helped me to narrow down the courses and advised me on what would be the next logical step after my first course in fitness.

We discussed how the next course should be something useful, internationally recognised and also likely to be approved - and it turned out spot on!
Picture

How did you find the student visa application process?

Easy! The only thing that is challenging when applying for a student visa is gathering all of the necessary funds.

Everything else was quite easy as Pavla took care of it all. She would send me an email or call me, asking for things that she needed. As soon as I sent it, I got the confirmation of updated details and everything was ready to go.

Both of my student visas that I applied for with Pavla got granted immediately.

What tips would you give to aspiring students wanting to move to Australia?

Save some money. That's the only advice that really counts.

Before studying here - have some money. While studying here - save more money!

What inspired you to pursue a career in international study?

Working in international education is such a pleasure.

My first career after graduating from university was working in adult education with a focus on Business and Self-leadership Development. I believe that education and study is the key to a successful career. I want to help students to achieve this!

What do you love the most about your job?

It's definitely meeting people from all over the world. I have met people from 70 different nationalities so far. Learning their culture, customs and experiences makes me so energetic and excited!

I'm happy to see them progressing in their studies and achieving their goals in life.

What advice would you give to aspiring students who dream of studying in Australia?

Firstly, follow your dreams and do not give up. Chances come to the dreamer!

Secondly, network. It's really important nowadays to build your network whilst you study in Australia. How to build your network? Love yourself! If you respect and love yourself, valuable people will come and follow you.

Take responsibility of your life.  Follow the principal dream and expand your skills.

Lastly, do your best once you start something whether that's studying or working.

I started my life in Australia on a working holiday visa. I then got my student visa, employer’s sponsorship visa and finally PR. I always dreamt of staying in this wonderland (Australia). There are such brilliant opportunities out here for migrants - not to mention it has beautiful weather!

I made plans, studied hard and did my best to make my dreams come true...

How can Study Online Australia help international students to find the right course and college for them?

Pavla and the Study Online Australia (SOA) team are experts in helping to find the right course and colleges for international students. Pavla is a qualified education agent (qualification: #QEAC H224), as well as an authorised agent at Australian Harbour International College.

What are your favourite memories from being a student?

I have so many memories from studying in Australia. Partying is definitely one of them. As I mentioned previously, you will meet so many people from such diverse cultures out here.

As a consequence, you will have so much fun with classmates from Africa, Asia and South America! College excursions were also a real highlight.
